Barriers and Opportunities to Energy Sharing Between Vehicles and Buildings During an Emergency, and Vehicles and Grids at Other Times

This project, conducted in partnership with BC Housing through the UBC Sustainability Scholars Program, investigated the barriers and opportunities associated with energy sharing between EVs and buildings during emergencies, and EVs and the grid during normal operations. BC Housing’s commitment to sustainability, climate resilience, and energy equity provides a strong foundation for exploring how these technologies could be integrated into future residential housing developments across British Columbia (BC). The research combined a comprehensive literature review, a jurisdictional and policy scan, and interviews with experts from utilities, academia, government, and technology sectors to ensure robust and practical insights.
